Who we are:
The membership of the Republican Project is comprised of Republicans from all walks of life who are determined to refocus and recommit the Republican Party to its traditional core values and proven conservative governance policies. While individual members may belong to the Republican Party, our organization stands alone and is NOT part of, nor subject to, the Maine GOP.
What we believe:
We believe in core conservative Republican policies and values. These beliefs include:
- All governments -- local, state and Federal -- must be fiscally responsible to their taxpaying constituency.
- There is a need to replace existing tax codes with an equitable, consumption-based taxation policy. To that end, The Republican Project supports the Fair Tax initiative.
- Small government is eminently preferable to today’s large, expanding bureaucracies.
- Free market/private-sector solutions to problems are strongly preferable to government mandates and tax-supported programs.
- Individual responsibility is a tenet upon which this nation was founded, and we must return to this basic standard. While government must help those who “can’t”, it is not obligated to support those who “won’t”.
- It is necessary to maintain a strong national defense, which includes energy independence.
- Supporting a culture of life and traditional marriage. We believe life is protected under the Constitution. We further believe that traditional marriage is good policy and that families headed by a mother and father are the cornerstone of American society.
- Supporting strong Immigration reform and securing our border with modern technology. As Ronald Reagan said, “a nation without borders fails to be a nation.” We further embrace English as our national language, a condition that should be mandated by statute, if necessary.
- Pride in our history of accepting and assimilating those who legally seek the promise of America by becoming citizens.
- Unequivocal support of the Second Amendment.
What we do:
The Republican Project actively promotes this agenda by:
- Keeping conservative ideology present in our communities. We will develop a network of conservative activists across the state. The Republican Project will cross-network between and among social, political, business and cultural groups that support our beliefs and interests.
- Influencing political issues at every level of government and in the media.
- Exposing waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in government and politics.
- Endorsing and supporting conservative candidates at all levels.
- Endeavoring to hold elected Republican officials accountable regarding their support of the Republican Party platform and conservative governance principles.
- Initiating and promoting activism against non-conservative policies and liberal elected officials.
- Educating the electorate about the negative effects of liberal policies and values, and illustrating the positive effect that conservatism can have on their daily lives and on Maine itself.
